  • The Best Sandwich in Chinatown

    sandwich

I think the best sandwich in Chinatown is the banh mi sandwich (aka Saigon sandwich), located near the corner of Grand and Mott street. It's a small shop. The front of the store is the jewlery section, and the back is the sandwich section. When you open the door, you can smell the fragrance of the sandwich. It's delicious.

I have been buying from that place for over five years. I love the food there, there's always a long line in the shop during lunch hours. My friend introduced me to the banh mi sandwich when I was a Sophomore in high school. She brought me to a small shop near East Broadway under the bridge, and we lined up for the sandwich. There was a really long line outside the store, it took us 30 minutes to wait for it. She helped her teacher to order a good amount of sandwiches for a party, and also brought some sandwhch herself. I was influenced by her and got one as well.

At first, I thought the sandwich was okay. I didn't like cilantro back then. But after eating the sandwich for two to three times, I was in love with sandwich. The combination of roast pork, sweet and sour carrots, meat slices and the fragance of cilantro in a crunchy/soft bread was additve. Everytime I get near the place I want to buy it. The store also sold a limited amount of sandwich per day. A lot of times, the sandwiches were sold out after 3p.m.  That was bad for me, because I used to get out of school at 3p.m. I can only get the sandwich on the weekends.

One day, I went to the shop and I was very disappointed that it was closed. There was a red flyer on the door announcing that it will reopen in a new location soon. It didn't said where and when. I left the area sadly. Every time I walk near the closed store, I wish it was still open. It was the first and the best banh mi sandwich I ate. I tried other banh mi sandwiches, it wasn't the same to me. Every store make the sandwich differently.

A year later, a friend told me that the store was under the bridge re-opened in Grand/Mott street. I was so happy and went to look for it. The new store look so much better than the tiny store from under the bridge. It has a lot more choices of different sandwiches and drinks. I ordered the original banh mi sandwich. It tasted delicious. I didn't remember the exact taste of the sanwich I ate before, but it felt the same to me.

  • Simple Chicken Noodle Soup Recipe

When it is cold outside and with little heat indoor, the best thing for me is to drink a bowl of hotsoup. I always love chicken noodle soup. That's my favorite noodle soup when I was in college. I looked forward to it every Wednesday for the cafeteria to put that out.

I always wanted to make that soup and searched for the recipe. I have different recipes of the chicken noodle soup saved in my e-mail, but they all looked complicated with many herbs and ingredients. I was too lazy to buy those herbs and find the different ingredients. The soup that I ate in school always have herbs in it. I think that's what makes the soup smell good and delicious. Today, I am still not very sure where to get those herbs or what they are called.

The other day, I called my friend to see what she's up to. She told me she made herself chicken noodle soup for dinner. I was so excited to hear that and asked her for the recipe. She told me it's very simple and easy to make. It was true.

Ingredients: Carrots, celery, potatos, chicken breast and penne pasta.

  • Why frozen yogurt or ice cream during the winter?

    pinkberry

I went to a friend's birthday dinner last night, we ate Korean. It was delcious but very spicy. After that, we went to Pinkberry next door. When we walked in , the entire store was fill with people. All the tables were taken and the other half of the room were fill with people standing there eating different flavors of frozen yogurt.

It was 29 degree out there. I really wonder why people eat frozen yogurt during the winter? Isn't a bowl of hot soup more tempting? Is it beacuse of the Pinkberry brand? Or is it just that particular store were fill with people? The one we went to is in Korean Town, that store is different than other Pinkberry stores. You can get any flavors with as many toppings as you want, but the price remain the same. My friends got green tea, pomegranate, and passion fruit flavors with different toppings like gummy bears, chocolate chips, mangos, pineapples, strawberries etc. Their cups looked really colorful and healthy.

The yogurts look tempting to me, but I know it's cold. So I didn't order any. I just sat there and chat with my friends. Half way through eating, they complained  that they were cold and full. That's exactly how I predict myself will feel if I brought one. One of my friend brought the yougurt to calm down her lips from eating spicy Korean  before, others just like the idea of having a dessert.

What is your reason for eating frozen yougurt or ice cream during the winter if you do? And what is your favorite flavor?
